Paper titleSocial participation in the aspect of development of a smart city
AbstractAdvanced technologies are stepping on the lives of citizens. At present, the society is more involved in creating and planning a city or the nearest place of residence than, 20 years ago. The quality of the functioning of the local community and the quality of life depend to a large extent on the level of social participation (FAO, 2018). The goal of social participation is to create a mechanism to satisfy civic needs and to develop citizens' acceptance for the actions of the authorities. Modern communication techniques make it very easy for people to express their opinions. Social awareness is growing in this direction. New ways of communicating are developing thanks to the development of modern technologies. The aim of the research is to analyze the mechanisms and forms of public participation in the spending of financial resources for the development of the city. It also discusses the latest way the authorities communicate with the means to give their opinion on how it works. Practical research was carried out for the city of Olsztyn, located in the north-eastern part of Poland. Mechanisms and forms of social activity, including those carried out with the help of ICT, were analyzed there. Research shows that social involvement depends to a large extent on the form of the message.
