Geographic Information in France (abstract)

In France two organisations cover the domain of geographic information:

• the Conseil National de l'Information Géographique (CNIG) is a consultative body composed of officials,
• the Association Française pour l'Information Géographique (AFIGéO) gathers together representatives of both public and private sectors.

These two organisations are working in close co-operation , which ensures the consistency of the French policy in geographic information. They arrange workshops, manage technical and economical studies, are representing the French community in the different international bodies (Eurogi, CEN/TC287, ISO/TC211, etc.).
