Geoinformační technologie (GIT) v současnosti představují nejpokročilejší nástroj pro analýzu geografických dat a modelování přírodních a krajinných procesů. Další napojení GIS a hydrologických modelů je pak logickým krokem v analýze a modelování v měřítku povodí. Srážkoodtokové, hydrodynamické a hydrogeologické modely nyní reprezentují výkonný a sofistikovaný software a spolu s erozními modely, ekologickými modely, DPZ a GIS přinášejí v podstatě komplexní nástroj pro management povodí, událostní a scénářové modelování.

Geoinformation technologies (GIT) nowadays represent the state of the art in the analysis of the geospatial data and the modelling of the Earth and landscape processes. Further combination of GIS and the hydrologic models is the logical consequence for the analysis and modelling in the watershed scale. Rainfall-runoff, hydrodynamic and groundwater models represent now the ensemble of powerful and advanced software and together with dynamic erosion models, ecological models, remote sensing and GIS bring the complex solution for the watershed management, event and scenarios modelling. However the linkage of the hydrologic and groundwater models is still in the state of development and validation, some capabilities of these combinations can be utilized presently. There is a possibility to use the complex commercial products such as MIKE SHE or combine the standalone models in the modular system with defined interfaces for the communication and data exchange of the modelling software. Some illustrative cases of such linkages based on the principle of modularity are demonstrated and discussed in this article. Land use and land cover (LULC) are amongst the most important factors in rainfall-runoff balance of catchments. Forests functions as interception, canopy storage, evapotranspiration, retention and detention are the significant hydrologic factors. Hydrological extremes as floods and droughts are influenced so as long-term hydrological balance of catchment by the presence and structure of forest cover. Western Carpathian catchments of Bečva river and Olse/Olza river were studied from the perspective of forest influence to the rainfall-runoff relations and balance. These studies were made with the support of hydrological models and geographic information systems (GIS). As the forest and vegetation cover plays the important role in the rainfall-runoff processes, so forests have to be considered as the important factor of soil conservation. The dynamic erosion models could represent a useful tool for fluvial erosion studying and land cover/forest function analysis beside the long-term research at experimental study catchments. Dynamic erosion models produce more complex solution and results than RUSLE. We can study catchment response during the rainfall-runoff episodes or within the long term simulations and scenarios. A range of results is described in this article. Modelling software utilized in this research were HEC-HMS, MIKE SHE and HYDROG for the rainfall-runoff modelling, MIKE 11 for the hydrodynamic and hydrograph transformation and SWAT, SIMWE/GRASS GIS & WEPP for the dynamical erosion modelling.
