Referát se zabývá historií oboru geoinformatika na HGF VŠB-TUO ve vazbě na rozvoj tohoto oboru v České republice od počátku 90. let minulého století. V příspěvku je popsán vývoj v národním a částečně i v mezinárodním kontextu po stránce společenské, ale i vývoj v kontextu rozvoje ICT. Jsou zde zachyceny některé významné milníky, které ovlivnily vývoj využívání geoinformačních technologií u nás. V závěru je nastíněn přepokládaný vývoj v příštích letech.

Article deals with history of geoinformatics at Faculty of Mining and Geology, VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava, in relation to development of this scientific and technical branch in Czech Republic from the beginning of 90th years of the past century. Article describes development in a national and partially in an international framework from social and information and communication technology point of view. Some important milestones are mentioned, which have had influenced using of geoinformation technologies in our country. The estimated development for the next years is outlined at the end.
