The operational length of city public transport lines in city reaches 1,121 km. The timetable and schematic of lines can be found at all stops. All vehicles of Public Transport in Ostrava have speakers announcing both the current and next stop.

Railway transportation

Fairly good train connections of the Moravian-Silesian region with the Czech Republic and with abroad are provided by a public rail network, which is operated by Czech Railways services, Inc. (CD). Ostrava currently has direct rail link to Prague (3 hours), Vienna (3 hours), Bratislava (3 hours), Warsaw (4.5 hours), Budapest (6 hours) and Moscow (27.5 hours). The city has five stations and several other stops. The most important are the Main Train Station and the Ostrava-Svinov Train Station.

The train SC Pendolino runs six times a day between Ostrava and Prague, making the trip in just three hours.

For travelling by train it is necessary to buy a ticket in the ticket office of any railway station before getting on board a train. The exception is in the smaller stations where there is not continuous operation of ticket offices, especially during the night. In such cases, passengers usually buy a ticket from the train crew. Most regional connections provide the possibility of travelling in the 2nd class only, many trains of higher category offer the option of purchasing tickets for 1st class, including the regional passenger train service City Elefant. Especially for travelling longer distances outside the region, we recommend buying a seat reservation ticket, it is mandatory for travelling by category SuperCity Pendolino trains on the route Ostrava - Prague. Ticket prices depend on the length of routes and on selected classes, Czech railway offers to their passengers a number of discounts (group, network, return, etc.). Journey through the region in the second-class in the distance of 50 km without any discounts would roughly cost 100 CZK, from Ostrava to Prague travelling with SuperCity (SC) Pendolino train would cost you around 630 or 850 CZK (2nd or 1st class).
